Hotel Interior Design in Marrakech: Riads, Resorts and Luxury Hotels

AMARGUS Group designs hotels, riads and resorts in Marrakech, from concept to turnkey delivery. Marrakech is not a hotel market like any other: it is a destination where the interior is part of the product, where heritage buildings, craft and climate impose their own rules, and where international guests arrive with precise expectations. We design properties that keep this Marrakchi promise without slipping into pastiche.

For a hotel investor, Marrakech raises questions a project in Casablanca or elsewhere does not: how to restore a heritage riad without betraying it, how to integrate zellige and tadelakt into a contemporary reading, how to protect materials in a hot, dry climate, how to answer an international clientele demanding on authenticity as much as comfort. This is the specificity our studio addresses — distinct from our broader approach to hotel design in Morocco.

What makes Marrakech different

Riads and heritage buildings

The riad is the heart of Marrakchi charm hospitality: a central patio, galleries, rooms arranged around the void, a play of shade and coolness. Restoring or transforming a riad demands an accurate reading of the existing fabric — wall thickness, air circulation, hierarchy of spaces — before any intervention. We design these projects by respecting the logic of the riad rather than working against it, so the result stays credible to guests who come looking for exactly that.

Moroccan craft and local know-how

Zellige, tadelakt, carved wood, ironwork, chiselled plaster: Marrakech concentrates a fabric of artisans whose know-how makes the value of a destination hotel. We integrate these crafts into a contemporary design as a living material, not as folkloric decoration. Our integrated joinery workshop complements this network for bespoke panelling and cabinetry, drawn within the project and built under our control.

Material and climate constraints

The Marrakchi climate — heat, dryness, strong light, dust — stresses materials differently from a coastal climate. Coverings, outdoor fabrics, solar protection, the finishes of open spaces must be chosen for this reality or they age fast. We select ranges validated for these conditions, integrating from the design stage the patios, terraces and semi-open spaces particular to Marrakchi hospitality.

A demanding international clientele

Marrakech draws a global clientele that compares the property to the best international addresses. It expects credible authenticity as much as uncompromising comfort: bedding, bathroom, connectivity, service. We translate the hotel's positioning — intimate luxury riad, resort, boutique hotel — into a coherent, photogenic material language that meets this demand.

Our method: design, procurement & site supervision, turnkey delivery

AMARGUS structures every Marrakchi hotel project in three connected phases, with validation milestones at each stage:

1. Design — Reading of the existing fabric (riad, site, structure), concept and positioning defined with investors, layout plans (rooms, patios, common areas, F&B, spa), material and craft selection, an approved design package before works.

2. Procurement and site supervision (OPC) — Sourcing and negotiation of furniture, equipment and local craft, trade coordination, schedule management, on-site quality control at every critical phase.

3. Turnkey delivery — Snagging, installation of furniture, lighting and signage, handover of a property ready to open.

This sequencing gives the investor clear budget and schedule visibility, essential when a commercial opening date is committed.

Why a Moroccan studio for a Marrakech project

A hotel project in Marrakech mobilises a dense network of artisans and suppliers whose real quality is verified on site, and administrative constraints particular to heritage and the medina. A Moroccan studio, present on the ground, knows this fabric, the real lead times of artisanal production and the contacts to mobilise. That proximity lets us integrate local craft into an ambitious design without the delays and risks of remote direction from abroad.

Marrakech imposes specifics we address directly: restoration of riads and heritage buildings, deep integration of local craft (zellige, tadelakt, wood), the constraints of a hot, dry climate, and an international clientele demanding on authenticity. Our page on hotel design in Morocco covers the more general approach, applicable to all cities.

Yes. Transforming a riad demands a careful reading of the fabric — air circulation, wall thickness, the hierarchy of spaces around the patio — before any intervention, to preserve the logic of the place while adapting it to contemporary hotel use.

Depending on the size of the property, the state of the existing fabric and the extent of craft, expect 8 to 18 months from framing to opening. Restoring a heritage riad often takes longer than a new build. Every project is planned individually.

The scope is chosen: design only, site supervision (OPC), or turnkey including full procurement and handover of a property ready to open. We frame this scope with you at the first consultation.

Cost depends on the category, surface area, state of the fabric, the volume of craft and bespoke joinery, and the finish level — never a standard rate. Every project receives a bespoke estimate after consultation. To frame your project, request an estimate.

We treat zellige, tadelakt, wood and ironwork as living materials integrated into a contemporary design, dosed according to the property's positioning, rather than as applied decoration. The level of integration is defined with the investors from the design stage.
